Last Push

The racing season is almost here! With snow falling and temps dropping it finally feels like winter really is just around the corner. The SMS T2 team got a little glimpse of old man winter several weeks ago out in Canmore ripping around on a white ribbon at “Frozen Thunder”. Temps were mostly warm but the skiing and training made for some solid sessions. If you couldn’t tell I cheated and took all my pictures on the last few days which were the nicest conditions…

Our camp out in Frozen Thunder came after two weeks of dry land training in Park City. The team finished up their 3+ week block with a classic sprint and 10k skate race. It was pretty cool to see a bunch of people training hard and hammering solid intensity sessions at the end of some big hours.

Once back in VT most of the team had some down time followed by their final prep periods before the race season. This means the overall training hours drop but the intensity of the sessions ramp up as people work on specific capacities for the race season.

Late fall also means other types of final prep before the race season. Ski racers have quite a few pairs of skis and understanding what conditions and grinds they are appropriate for in necessary for fast boards on race day. A big thanks to Caldwell Sport for the speedy turnaround on the grinding and evaluation!

Late Fall tends to be an exciting time for skiers. Crisp training temps, hard intensity sessions, and new gear arriving from sponsors. No different for a coach! Just fewer intensity sessions maybe…

So here we are, middle of November, getting ready for the last push before race season. The athletes are gearing up, the coaches are gearing up, and we really want to this team to hit 2014/2015 with a blazing start. We hope to see many of you that have supported us thus far on Saturday night at our send off event. This is a community based team and we want people to realize what an incredible area Stratton is for supporting skiing! But for those that can’t make it please consider supporting the team and the work they have done through our matching grant challenge. Every dollar will be matched and will make a huge difference allowing the athletes to get to the starting line where they can show off the hard work they have put in.

Here’s to a great winter!
