Fast and Male, Speedy and Female

Erika updates on the Bend camp’s Fast and Female and Speed Camp events!

Between some big training hours and fun sessions on snow here in Bend, almost the entire SMS Elite team had the chance to hang out with some awesome up-and-comers today. Simi and Andy helped run SPEED CAMP-an all-out dudes only event that includes agility, strength, sprints, mud pits, arm wrestling and fights with bears…just kidding on the last few… I’ve actually never been to an official Speed Camp but I hear they are pretty awesome! Based on the pictures and reports from the U.S. Men’s Team, the event was a smashing success and the guys had a sweet afternoon playing games and working on good old-fashioned speed.

Meanwhile, Annie, Jessie, Sophie and I helped lead a Fast and Female event complete with cross-fit, Dancing with Diggins, relay tic-tac-toe and soccer. Annie helped us get our fitness on-challenging the girls with 50 burpees, 40 lunges, 25 jumping jacks, 15 bear crawls and endless planks. Jessie once again showed us why her future mini-van will have “dance-mom” written on the license plate-that girl can bust some serious moves and manages to get over 60 girls laughing and dancing for almost an hour! Sophie shared a few secrets to building a strong team and I led a crew of crazy 10-11 year olds through a whirlwind of stations-finally calming victory with my “squad” in the last tic-tac-toe relay before collapsing in exhaustion ☺ #worthit

Every Fast and Female is different but I particularly loved the energy of the “Bend edition” event today. Technically as ambassadors, we lead these events to inspire girls to stick with sports, spread the love and dominate the world. The truth is that I come away from each of these events inspired myself-whether from the positive vibes or silly tactics of the girls I meet or the stories shared by my fellow ambassadors. As a team we are incredibly grateful for these opportunities to give back some of that love we have for sport and also to witness the pure delight for sport that so many young athletes share.  Big shout out to Steve Fuller for capturing the day!
