Paddy sends up update after his portion of Bend Camp!
May is flying by! This spring I have been back in Hanover, NH taking classes at Dartmouth. It has been great to be back in the swing of things at school and decompress after the season. BUT to keep things interesting I played hooky last week to jump in the first week of the US Ski Team training camp in Bend, Oregon. It was my first time in the Pacific Northwest, and Bend most definitely lived up to the hype.

The overall focus of the camp was volume training. We skied at Mount Bachelor Nordic Center, about thirty minutes from town. We would go up early every morning to take advantage of the harder tracks. Most nights it got cold enough for the snow to freeze and set up fast tracks, but the snow slowly broke down throughout the day. The skiing was spectacular and presented a great opportunity to practice skiing in both icy and mashed potato conditions.

Parting Shot: The men’s teams on its way up Broken Top at the far end of an EPIC out-and-back crust cruise. This was the highlight of the camp for me featuring lots of hooting-and-hollering and a few moments of absolute terror. Four and a half hours of perfect crust skiing, amazing views of the area and a happy team in the mountains. Bend, you will be missed.
